Are you Shell Shocked?

We are all becoming increasingly aware of this new "deadly serious" bug that is potentially affecting millions of servers, computers and devices across the globe, but there is no risk to ODBC Drivers.

Some 500 million machines are thought to be vulnerable to this new bug, dubbed "Shell Shock"; it's a flaw that has been found within a software component known as Bash; Bash is part of many Unix and Linux systems as well as Apple's Mac operating system; this makes servers, websites, PCs, OS X Macs and various routers potentially vulnerable to hackers.

Shell Shock can be used to remotely take control of almost any computer system or device using Bash, and some experts believe that the bug is more serious that Heartbleed, which was discovered in April this year.

From an ODBC and JDBC perspective, the Drivers themselves offer absolutely no security risk as it's the operating systems that's at risk.

For your network and devices the advice right now is to keep a eye open for patches to Bash and apply them as soon as they become available.
